Snapchat me that Crisis

Snapchat me that Crisis (2016) engages with the refugee crisis through investigative journalism and moving image, critiquing how social and mass media frame, distort, and consume humanitarian narratives. The installation consists of six screens, each displaying the same video filtered through different platforms—Instagram, X, Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube, and others—revealing how format dictates dissemination, from video length to caption limits. This repetition and fragmentation reflect how information online is constantly reshaped, overlapped, and diluted, creating confusion and desensitization. By situating myself at the centre of the work, I use moving image to question how empathy is mediated through systems designed for distraction. The piece was produced in 2016 and exhibited at the Royal College of Art Degree Show.
