Pompeii (2019) exhibited in Darat Al Funun,is a series of sculptural works made from everyday materials—paint fragments, plants, metal mesh—encased in cement. Like the ancient city that inspired it, the series attempts to freeze moments in time, preserving traces of the ordinary. As the materials fuse together, they appear suspended, yet remain alive and reactive: plants wilt, metal rusts, and paint bleeds. This natural decay reveals the impossibility of true preservation and the futility of resisting change. Pompeii becomes a meditation on impermanence, memory, and the passage of time—an acknowledgment that even in stillness, transformation continues to unfold.
