The Network of Swings is an interactive installation first exhibited at Amman Design Week in 2017 and later at the Children’s Museum in Amman. Departing from the static “look, but don’t touch” approach of traditional exhibitions, Yasmeen Sabri created a pretenseless, participatory work that invites visitors to play freely. Using swings—a universal symbol of joy and connection—the installation highlights the lack of accessible public spaces and entertainment in Jordan. Extending beyond the gallery, Sabri built swings in Jabal Natheef and the Za’atari Camp, connecting them through Instagram to foster dialogue and shared experience. A do-it-yourself manual further empowers audiences to build their own swings, expanding the network and spirit of communal play.
